Leicester is located in central England, on the banks of the River Soar and has around 400,000 inhabitants. In this area you will find peace and many sights if you like history.

Attractions in the city

If you like to walk around and marvel at nature and canals, then head to Foxton Locks, here you can see how the canal boats glide around back and forth, here there are also a couple of nice pubs that make the visit worthwhile. If you want to experience what it was like to travel by train in the past, visit the Great Central Rail Way. Riding this historic railway in an old train pulled by a steam locomotive, from Leicester North to Loughborough is something you will appreciate. Tickets are valid all day.

The New Walk Museum can be found on the world's oldest pedestrian street - New Walk is located right next to the city's central parts. The museum opened in 1849 and is the UK's oldest public museum. There are exhibits featuring dinosaurs, Egyptian mummies and a mineral collection from Leicestershire.
