Southampton is a town in the county of Hampshire in the south of England. Located on the coast about 110 km southwest of London. The city has a very busy port both in terms of commercial traffic, cargo ships and leisure boats. From here you can, for example, go all the way to New York, with the world's only transatlantic liner Queen Mary 2. The route takes about 7 days. It was also from this port that the Titanic made its first and only voyage with the goal of crossing the Atlantic.
A must if you are traveling to the city is a visit to the SeaCity Museum. Here you can learn all about the city's history, but above all take part in the tragic event that hit the city hard in the spring of 1912, when the Titanic sank on its third day on the Atlantic. More than 500 households in Southampton lost a family member on this day, as many of the staff were from here. At the museum, there is, among other things, an interactive model of the ship in scale 1:25.
Southampton is probably the greenest city in the south of England. In the central parts of the city there are as many as seven cultural heritage parks. One of these is East Park which is located in the heart of the city. The park is full of life and movement and there is a lot to do. Mini golf, basketball and cricket are some of the activities you can practice here. The park also has a popular skate park. Guided hiking tours are also organized here every day of the week.
If you want to go on a day trip, we recommend that you go on a boat trip to the island of Isle Of Wight. The holiday island is very popular with both foreign and domestic tourists and there is a wide range of activities and attractions.
British food in all its glory, but in Southampton, international cuisine is in focus. Due to the city's trade connections, there is food here from all corners of the world. Italian, American, Mexican, Oriental, yes there are restaurants from pretty much every cuisine represented in the city.
Indian food has long been a favorite of the English, and the range of Indian restaurants is large. One of the ones that we think stands out a little extra is Baboo Ji Vegetarian Kitchen, a completely vegetarian / vegan Indian restaurant. Feels just right in time and is much appreciated even by non-vegetarians.
If you still want to feel the British cuisine, there are of course good alternatives for that as well. Tim's Bistro at 19 Bedford Place is a perfect place to enjoy local food. Feel free to try their Surf and turf, it is magical!
Southampton's football team is called Southampton FC, but is often called The Saints. At the home arena St. Mary's Stadium, you can see the team take on the opponents in England's highest league in the Premier League.
