Miami

Miami is located in the southeastern part of the United States in the state of Florida. A large number of Latin Americans live here as a result of large-scale immigration in the 1960s and 1980s. Hence, the Spanish language is very prominent here. The city is an incredibly important port city for import and export in the country and in addition, many Caribbean cruisers depart from here.

Here is a tropical climate, with hot humid summers and warm dry winters. This makes the city a popular destination for sun-worshiping tourists.

See and do

Zoo Miami is an incredibly well-kept zoo that is ranked as one of the best in the world. There are about 500 different species of animals here, mainly from Asia, Africa and Australia and they are allowed to move freely in large enclosures. The promenade around the park is almost 5 kilometers long and there are opportunities to both cycle and tram around. The park is open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day of the week. However, some exceptions may occur around major holidays.

Even though the great weather may mean that you mostly want to stay outdoors, it can be nice to get away from the sun for a while during the hottest hours of the day. A good activity can then be to visit a museum. One of the best that Miami has to offer is the Frost Museum of Science with a focus on science, research and sealife - do not miss the aquarium with exciting sea animals or the mighty planetarium.

Food

Florida Stone Crab is a local delicacy. The crustacean with its characteristic black-tailed claws is a popular commodity throughout the state. The claws are often served as they are with a cold mustard sauce to dip them in. The crab meat is also used to make Crab Cakes, a kind of fried steak of crab meat, eggs, onions and spices. The best place to enjoy the delicious crab is the famous Joe's Stone Crab at 11 Washington Ave, Miami Beach.

Sports

There is a huge amount of sports to watch during a stay in Miami. The city has teams in the nation's highest leagues in both ice hockey, basketball, baseball and American football.

The biggest sport among the locals is Baseball and the MLB team Miami Marlins is the pride of the city. The team plays at Marlins Park in Little Havana.

If you want to experience American football, you should head to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. There, the Miami Dolphins play their games in the country's highest league NFL.

The NHL team Florida Panthers is housed in the BB&T Center, which is located a bit north of the center. However, the team has never won the Stanley Cup. It was close once, when they lost in the final against Colorado Avalanche with the great swede Peter Forsberg at the front line.
