Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria is the capital of the Canary Islands. With its approximately 400,000 inhabitants, the city is the largest city in the Spanish archipelago and is located on the northeastern part of the island. The main shopping street in Las Palmas is Avenida Mesa y López. Here you can find everything from exclusive fashion houses such as Gucci and Versace but also smaller local stores. Here is also one of Spain's largest department stores, El Corte Inglés.
Spanish cuisine is famous all over the world. Paella, Tapas and Calamares (squid) are some of the country's specialties.
