Formula 1 is back in France, on the Paul Ricard Circuit. About 60 km east of Marseille you will find this legendary race track, in the region of Le Castellet! The French Grand Prix in 1906 in Le Mans was the first to be held and is thus one of the oldest competitions in the world of motorsport. It has also been held in more than 15 different locations around France, only Australia as a country can compete with several as they have organized their Grand Prix on over 20 different Formula 1 tracks.
The fact that France as a country was a leader in the creation of the Grand Prix competitions also made them incredibly influential in the development of the sport, from the beginning of the 20th century and into the new millennium!
From the fact that the French Grand Prix between 1991–2008 was run on the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in central France, the competition in the World Championship is now back near the south coast of France! However, the first race organized at the Paul Richard Circuit was as early as 1971.
Circuit Paul Ricard has a length of 5.84 km and a Grand Prix is ??held during 53 laps on this circuit. A strong feature of the course is that it contains few climbs and slopes as it is built on a plateau and is therefore considered a very flat course. The fastest lap on this course was run by the German Sebastian Vettel, with a time of 1: 32.72. German F1 legend Michael Schumacher has the most victories in the French Grand Prix, with a total of 8 first places.
