One of the youngest competitions in the World Championship is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, also known as the Baku F1, which was held for the first time in 2017. It is a city race run on a street circuit in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. The first winner of the Baku Grand Prix was the Australian Daniel Ricciardo. Together with the Monaco GP, Melbourne GP and Singapore GP, they are the city races' contribution to the annual competition calendar in the Formula 1 World Championship.
The circuit extends about 6 km with 20 curves and the lap record is held by Monégasquen Charles Leclerc with a time of 1: 43.01. A Grand Prix on the Baku City Circuit is held over 51 laps. The course is in the usual order designed by F1 legend Hermann Tilke, who has contributed his knowledge to a large part of the F1 courses that participate in the World Championship every year.
Baku City Circuit is characterized by being a very fast Formula 1 track, with an average speed of 200km / h and an achieved top speed of over 360k / h. Two exciting sections along the circuit are a narrow climb into the old town and another section in the form of a 2.2 km long straight line, along the popular promenade Neftchilar Avenue, which is guaranteed to make the engine roar at top speeds.
