Leeds United - History

The club's home arena is Elland Road in the Beeston district, where it has been played since its founding. It was ready for use in 1897, and since Leeds United was founded in 1919, the club has played its home games here.

In the 80's, the arena was also used for the rugby team Hunslet Hawks' home matches. Elland Road has, among other things, hosted semi-finals of the FA Cup and home matches for England's national team. The arena has also been used for other than sports. There you have also been able to enjoy concerts with Queen and U2, among others.

Leeds United was founded in 1919 and already in 1924 it was time to be promoted to the highest English division. In the 1960s and 70s, Leeds still dominated the English football scene. During that period, Leeds won two English championships, a League Cup title, two UEFA Cup titles, and a victory in what we today call the Champions League.

Since Leeds were forcibly relegated in 2007, Leeds have been in the lower divisions of England. Leeds still managed to play their way up to the second best division, The Championship, in 2010 and have since been in a solid place in the table there. But now the club's strong goal is to get to the top division and be able to establish itself in the Premier League again.

Ahead of the 20/21 season, the club is finally back in the Premier League again, ready to create new legends and successes.

Leeds was one of the first clubs in England to form a football academy when it was founded in 1992. The academy gives the club's youth an opportunity to combine studies with developing their football skills under professional guidance. The academy has nurtured several of the club's current and former players over the years, including Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Paul Robinson and more.

Leeds has also had a couple of Swedes who represented the club, such as Teddy Lucic, Pontus Jansson and one of the leading players from the Swedish bronze team in 1994 when they won the World Cup Bronze in the USA, none other than Tomas Brolin.
