Everton FC initially played with Anfield as their home stadium, but after a rentdispute, Liverpool FC, dressed in red, was created in 1892 and Everton chose to then play their home games at Goodison Park.

The rivalry between the city's clubs is felt extra by the fact that the blue part of the city that cheers on Everton FC and the red part that cheers on Liverpool FC have their respective home stadiums only a few hundred meters apart, separated by a park.

The Toffees have had a large number of football players who were later formed into club legends. The former great goalkeeper Neville Southall, Dixie Dean, Alan Ball, Peter Reid and also the big crowd pleaser, the swede Anders Limpar. When he signed for Arsenal FC in 1990, he was asked if the Gunners were his favorite club. Kind but firmly he then said no and proclaimed that he was a Toffee! Before the 1994–1995 season, he finally signed for the Liverpool club in his heart.
