Founded in 1920, the football club Cagliari Calcio is a great pride for the island of Sardine, west of the Italian mainland. The club colors are blue and red and as a tribute to Sardinia, the island's flag is part of the club brand. Because the team's home is on an island, they are also called Gli Isolani (The Islanders).
Cagliari Calciodo not have a major trophy cabinet to show, but they have won Serie A once, in the 1969–1970 season. A leading player from that season was without a doubt forward Luigi Riva, also a great Italian national team player, with over 10 seasons for the club.
