The Bundesliga is the premier domestic football competition in Germany. The league is contested by 18 teams each year and was founded in 1962. The Bundesliga season runs from August to May, with a break over the Christmas period, and is widely regarded as the most supported domestic football competition in Europe, with an average crowd attendance of 45,000 fans at each Bundesliga game. FC Bayern Munich has been the most successful German club in the Bundesliga, winning the title a total of 24 times. Whilst dominating the domestic competition, Bayern have also performed extremely well in Europe’s elite club completion, the UEFA Champions League winning the European title 5 times, the most recent being 2013.  Other prominent clubs in the Bundesliga who have experienced European success include Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and Hertha Berlin. The strenght of the domestic league coupled with the outstanding youth development programs have resulted in an extremly strong and competitive German national team, recent winners of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Bundesliga: The Talent

With the strength of youth football in Germany and the Bundesliga, many German footballing heroes choose to play their club football locally and not travel to the EPL, La Liga or Serie A. National treasures such as Phillip Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller have continued entertaining crowds in Munich, Berlin and Dortmund like legends such as Franz Beckenbauer, Jurgen Klinsmann and Oliver Khan did. Whilst the Bundesliga continues to be dominated by German players, other international stars have chosen the league as the perfect opportunity to test their skills. Players like Arjen Robben, Kevin De Bruyne and Xabi Alonso have all made their way into the Bundesliga.
