Barnsley FC was founded in 1887 and their home stadium is called Oakwell, with a capacity for about 24,000 spectators. They play in red match shirts with white shorts and the club is known to be called by the nicknames The Tykes, The Super Reds or The Reds. The club from the north of England does not have a large number of titles but became FA Cup champion in the 1911/12 season.
Usually the club plays in the Championship or lower down in the league system. One of the club's biggest legends is the Englishman Ernie Hine, who in addition to having scored the most goals for the club, has also been a coach there after his playing career.
