The first Grand Prix in Russia ever was run in October 2014, on what is today one of the longest courses in the F1 calendar. Sochi Autodrom has a circuit length of 5.84 km and is integrated with the park that was built with the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi which was arranged in early 2014. In addition to part of the circuit is designed in the Olympic park, there is also a part of it laid out on, in ordinary cases, public roads. F1 legend Hermann Tilke has been responsible for the design of the circuit. In the past, the circuit has also been known by the names Sochi International Street Circuit and Sochi Olympic Park Circuit.
The fastest lap at Sochi Autodrom has the British Lewis Hamilton performed, with a time of 1: 35.76. During a Grand Prix, the competition is carried out for a total of 53 laps, under a total distance of approximately 310 kilometers.
One of the better places along the circuit is to sit on the T2 Grandstand Vitaly Petrov and take part in a long straight before the cars turn into the long third turn. The course is known for containing very many turns and in the third turn the drivers are challenged by a 750 meter long left turn past the beautiful Poyushchiye fountain to end with a sharp right turn, towards a shorter straight.
