Autodromo Nazionale Monza just north of Milan in northern Italy is something of a Formula 1 history institution. On the Monza track, the F1 race has been run ever since the World Championship in Formula 1 started in 1950. Together with some other races, the F1 race at Monza is the only race in the World Cup series that has been around since the start.

Experience high speeds on classic F1 ground

As I said, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a motorway with a long history. In fact, the track was completed as early as 1922. In the years 1938-39, a major rebuild of the track took place, which then had a length of 6,3 km.

After the Second World War, more precisely in 1954, another rebuilding took place which gave Monza its current appearance with a length of just under 5,8 km and in addition an oval of 4.25 km. The first race at Monza in the newly established World Championship in Formula 1 was run on September 3, 1950, which was also the seventh and final race in that year's World Series. The winner was the Italian Nino Farina, who drove for the Alfa Romeo stable and who also took home the overall victory in the entire championship.

Since then, the track has been modified a number of more times, including by adding harassment and the like to slow down the cars.

Thanks to the fact that Monza only has a few curves and offers long straight distances, it is possible to get up to very high speeds, something that Monza is also well known for. The top speed on the track is up to 340 km / h, which the drivers reach at the end of the long start-and-finish rake towards the first harassment. The course record is held by the British Lewis Hamilton, who in 2020 completed a lap of 1,18,887 during the qualifiers.

At Monza, Sweden's best F1 driver of all time, Ronnie Peterson, also took home three victories, 1973, 1974 and 1976. However, it was also at Monza that he was injured in 1978.
